Summer’s here, and that often means finding new and cool (sometimes literally) ways to entertain yourself and the kids. While a lot of these may involve going to the mall, amusement park, or any other place with airconditioning, sometimes it’s possible to achieve your fun right at home.
That’s when a lawn comes in handy: it gives you plenty of room to frolic or relax around as much as you want — key things to always do when summer rolls around. So if you’ve ever found yourself wondering what to do with that big green space out front, here are some ideas that we’ve come up with.
Before you start: Lawn Care
It’s important to remember that you should always make sure that your lawn is in good shape before you start doing anything on it. That not only includes maintenance and care but also making sure that the kind of lawn that you have is suitable for the type of activity that you have in mind.
Generally, there are two ways that you can best use your lawn during the summer months. While they may differ in the occupants of the house, the general neighborhood, and even the resources available to you, these activities can be roughly divided into two:
Relaxation
One of the best things about having a lawn is that it allows you to get the full luxury of enjoying outdoor activities while still being in a private space. There’s plenty of things you can enjoy on your lawn with a little bit of work and a lot of relaxing, either by yourself or with friends.
Work on your summer tan, inflate a backyard pool or bring some friends over for some summer drinks: these are one of the many activities that you can do during the hot summer days and cool summer nights. The lawn is an excellent place to chill and party with friends and family — but make sure to clean up afterwards!
Play
The other thing that you can do is to transform your lawn into a small amusement park of sorts. It doesn’t have to take much on your part — just some creativity and the right toys — but you can transform your small green space into an area of fun! Bust out the water hose and outdoor toys, as there’s no better time or place to use them.
If you have the budget for it, you can even be a little more ambitious about the activities that you want to hold. Browse for things like cornhole sets for sale or backyard trampolines for the kids. If you and your guests are a little older, there some things that can elicit more laughter and shared stories than some alcohol-themed party games.
Plenty of possibilities await those who have a lawn and a little bit of creativity; beating the summer heat only the least of these. Always remember to take good care of both the lawn and the things that you use on it, and you should be fine for the rest of the incoming months.
